Prepare iPads for first day of school

For anyone who has a DOE-loaned ipad, we have some important updates for you. It is essential that you take the actions below to ensure your child’s ipad is ready for use for return to school. The first day of school is only a few weeks away, and all students will be working remotely for at least a few days a week. Your child will need their ipad to be ready for learning for the fall. Please note that when we have other updates, we will send messages to you and your iPad on Thursdays, and we will let your schools know about the updates. To prepare, you MUST: ● Turn on the ipad – some iPads have not been turned on all summer. We need you to charge and power up the ipad. ● Turn Airplane Mode on and off to reset your internet connection a. Go to Settings b. Find the Airplane Mode button c. Turn Airplane Mode on for ten seconds (button turns green) d. Turn Airplane Mode off and wait until the ipad reconnects to the internet e. You will see the connected icon at the top of the screen f. Go to schools.nyc.gov to make sure your ipad is connected to the internet – all DOE-loaned ipads have internet access. ● Return to the main screen and sign into Zscaler in order to ensure your child is using the internet with all the safety the DOE requires and protect your child. You will need your child’s @<www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts>nycstudents<www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts>.<www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts>net<www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts> <www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts> account<www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support/doe-student-accounts>. Once you get that please follow these directions: a. On the main screen, click the Zscaler icon. After clicking the icon, you will be taken to the login page. b. Enter your child’s @nycstudent account (only use the student’s username and password, no need to include @nycstudents to log in), then click the “sign in” button. c. Click on the “allow” button and wait one minute for a connection to be established until you will see the Zscaler screen d. Once the connection is secure, close the app e. That is it. You can use the iPad normally now. ● Sign into the Learn at Home App To get ready for the first day of school, make connecting to learning and support much easier for your child (and you, too!), and allow you to get notifications on the iPad: a. Find the Learn at Home icon on the main screen on the iPad b. Log in the same way you did for Zscaler, using the same @nycstudents.net account (only use the student’s username and password, no need to include @nycstudents to log in) c. From the Learn at Home app your child can access TeachHub, Google Classroom and get help.
Good news! Your child’s ipad is now a hotspot that allows you to connect other devices used for remote learning to the internet. It is easy: ● Go to Settings ● Find Personal Hotspot and click to take you to the login screen ● Select Allow Others to Join ● Devices other students in your house are using for remote learning can be added to that connection ● As a reminder, as with the ipad itself, the hotspot connection is to be used only to access remote learning activities. Any unauthorized use is strictly prohibited.

Return to School 20-21 Update

In a continuous effort to keep you informed, here, is the letter: Update for Families on NYC DOE School Opening for the 2020-2021 school year from Chancellor Richard Carranza.

The letter provides more insight to the NYC Department of Education Fall Learning Options as well as provides the necessary information and this site https://learndoe.org/face/ to attend the upcoming DOE parent info sessions that are scheduled for tonight, July 28th, as well as August 12th and August 27th.

Please take the time to review the letter and attend the info sessions.

As new information regarding our Return to School schedules and procedures are determined, we will be keeping you informed.

Learning Preference Survey

In preparation of our return in September, we need to know what preference you have for the way your child will learn in September. The options are:
* Have your child return to the school (involves in-school & learning from home) * 100% Remote Learning (involves your child learning from home only)
Please use this link to complete this survey: www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference

Important Summer School Information

Here are some key pieces of information regarding summer school.
· Start & End Date: July 6th – August 14th
· Instructional Days: Classes are Monday – Thursday. Fridays are given to students to work on assignments on their own
· Bell Schedule: Period 1 – 8:30 to 10:10 AM, Period 2 – 10:10 to 11:50 AM, Period 3 – 11:50 – 1:30 PM
· Website you will use for remote learning: teachhub.schools.nyc/Home/Index (iLearnNYC app)
· Account you will be using: Your new DOE account (must be activated – info below)
· Program to give you instruction: Edmentum (automatically will come up when pressing iLearnNYC app)
· Program to use for meeting with teachers: Zoom
· Period 0 & 4 Classes: These classes are from last term that you received a NX as a final grade. NX means that your teacher thought you did not master enough of the course material to give a passing grade of 65 or higher. You will be taking portions of the class via iLearn to satisfy the course material from last term.
To Activate your new DOE account OR Reset your password: In order to activate your account, please take these necessary steps:
1. Go to idm.nycenet.edu/students/start.form 2. Enter your OSIS # (StudentID) & Date of Birth in the slots provided 3. You will be given your username. Click the continue button. 4. Create your password
Students scheduled for Periods 1 – 3 will be in classes that are traditional. You will meet with a teacher Monday – Thursday, work on assignments, receive instruction via Zoom by the teacher and run the entire length of summer school. **NOTE** Students in these classes are most likely in them to be granted a waiver for the regent you need to take. This fact is very important.
Students in Period 0 classes are in the class to make up coursework from last term to receive a passing grade for that class. Students in these classes will be given work using edmentum, given by Grady teacher(s) (most likely) to complete on their own time (or during set specific times).
Besides your teachers, which may or may not be Grady teachers, the following Grady staff members are working during summer school and can support you when you need it (or reach out to them via Pupilpath).

Grady High School 2020 Virtual Graduation

Dear Grady Friends and Family,
We are excited to invite you to join Grady’s first-ever Virtual Graduation Ceremony event hosted by the Open Door Arts-in-Education Project. As we are unable to celebrate our students’ tremendous academic achievements during this pandemic in-person we have worked with ODAEP to create a memorable experience to recognize the important decisions our seniors have made for their post-secondary lives.

Seniors & Senior Families: Please note that due to the current situation, we are happy to welcome all seniors to participate in the 2020 graduation ceremony. HOWEVER, please be aware that participating in the graduation does not mean students are officially confirmed as a high school graduate. All June confirmed graduates will be notified by the school next week.

Please join us as we celebrate the seniors virtually and in style. The viewing information is below:
